A lot of people associate Botox Therapy with wrinkles, but Botox is also a great chronic pain treatment to alleviate TMJ pain and discomfort. As a result, Botox Therapy can also slim the masseter muscles over time. Just like the regular Botox Therapy for wrinkles, this treatment does wear off between 3-6 months. After injections, Botox takes about 2 weeks to feel the full effect. We currently offer both Botox and Xeomin brands for Botulinum Toxin therapy. Please contact our office if you have any questions or would like to schedule an appointment. You may also check out the Botox Therapy for TMJ page from the American Academy of Facial Esthetics.
Below are our Pre/Post Instructions for Botulinum Toxin therapy. Please read over these documents if you have a scheduled Botox appointment at our office, in addition to filling out our Botox Consent form and updating your medical history.
Our Botox Therapy started when our own team member, Cameran, was dealing with severe TMJ symptoms and had no relief from a night guard or medication. She has gotten Botox Therapy for over two years now and has experienced significant relief, resulting in what she feels is a much higher quality of life. Feel free to give our office a call to talk more in depth with Cameran on her experience and see what our Botox patients have to say about how their treatment has helped their TMJ:
"I was diagnosed with migraines in December after several weeks of excruciating pain in my head and jaw. I heard of medical Botox through my mom who had been using it to treat her TMJ pain and spoke highly of the pain relief. I had my first treatment at the end of December and within 2 weeks, I stopped having frequent migraines and had minimal to no jaw pain. Since then, I’ve continued this treatment and will continue this treatment. I highly recommend this treatment to those with Migraines or TMJ pain. I can now eat pain free and go to bed feeling relaxed."

"Botox has been a life saver for me! The tension in my jaw is greatly reduced. I no longer wake up sore from clenching my teeth all night, and I’m starting to notice a softening of my jaw line as the muscle decreases in size overtime."

"I have lived with Bruxism for the last 15 years, and have tried so many remedies to stop or reduce the side effects caused by teeth grinding. From night guards, bite analysis, posture devices, and yoga, nothing seemed to relieve the symptoms. My jaw and neck muscles were constantly sore, tight, and tender to the touch, often leading to frequent headaches. Once the pain moved down my upper back and affected my daily life, I decided to try a different approach with my dentist and treat the area with Botox. Once I learned Dr. Bellamy is specifically trained for this type of treatment, it gave me comfort and hope that it would work. The process is extremely easy, and within two weeks from the initial treatment, I could tell the difference. Not only have my headaches improved but my jaw tenderness and neck and back pain improved almost 100 percent. I wish I would have known about doing this with Dr. Bellamy sooner!"
